Therefore the exact same frame could be labelled two different sizes, depending on how it is measured. Other brands, such as Fuji, measure all the way to the top of the seat tube. The 27.5 wheel size is larger than a traditional 26 mountain bike tire and smaller than the more recent 29 sized bikes. However, some companies use the center of the intersection of the top tube and the seat tube as the second reference point. Pretty much everyone measures from the center of the bottom bracket, along the seat tube. Different manufacturers use different reference points for how they measure their frames. ![]() That's when you're standing with your feet flat on the ground, and in your riding clothes and shoes.Ĭomparing fit between brands can get a bit tricky. ![]() A general rule of thumb for road riding is that you should have at least an inch of clearance between you and the frame. You can measure the stand over height of your current bike to see how the Fuji would compare. Fuji lists it as 30.4 inches for the 2003 Finest Al in the 54 cm size. In a Fuji compact frame, I'd take a 50 cm.Īnother thing to check out would be the stand over height. (I think that for my height, I have a long torso and short legs, so the height difference between you and I may not be that relevant.) My bike has the traditional frame geometry rather than the compact geometry. I'm 5'9" barefoot, with a 30" inseam, and I'm happy with how my 54 cm Fuji fits me. ![]()
